INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY
I arranged this one-to-one coaching day following a very informative taster session run by
my professional society. By booking a one-to-one session Paul was able tailor the learning
outcomes to meet my particular needs which, as a garden designer, revolved around my
being able to take the best possible photographs of my clients’ gardens regardless of the
light and weather conditions.
The coaching session ran from 10 am to 4 pm and began with clear explanation of the
two key elements that would improve my photographic skills, namely an understanding
of depth of field and how to control the exposure. Paul has an excellent knowledge of
his subject and is able to impart this in a clear and simple manner so that I soon felt able
to rise to the challenge of putting the theory into practice. Following a stint of outdoor
photography we loaded the images onto my computer and chatted through the results
before Paul showed me how to enhance my images using Photoshop Elements. This
part of the coaching day was invaluable as I learned how to use a software program that
I already owned but was not using to best effect. Paul finished the session by introducing
me to some of the tricks of composition used by professional photographers.
Throughout the day Paul took the time to check my understanding of new concepts and
was encouraging about my photographic efforts, both in the camera and after the digital
enhancement process. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and very good value for money.
I have no hesitation in recommending Paul Holloway Photography for friendly, supportive
and highly informative photographic tuition.
Testimonial - "The photography course at the Monachyle Mhor Hotel was informative, informal, fun and was geared to the enthusiastic amateur wanting to improve their skills. Paul was a great teacher: hugely knowledgeable, patient and a great motivator. Even the bad weather couldn't dampen our enthusiasm! Since the course I have been out taking photographs at every opportunity and I am now thoroughly enjoying my hobby. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in learning how to take better photographs." Elaine.
