The Trotternish ridge from the Quiraing.

The image was taken in April 2008 on a blustery spring day. I camped out overnight to be there for the sunrise. However the rising sun was obscured by a cloudy start to the day. I waited for about 2 hours for the sun to finally break through. I liked the old stunted tree hanging onto the mountainside and thought it formed a fitting foreground for such a primeval landscape. In composing the images I was careful not to have any branches of the tree impinging on the loch in the midground, keeping both elements in the image distinct. This image was Highly Commended in the Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition.
